The freedom to women is not to be given, but to come by default, without forcing them on.

Even I heard those stories of giving a seat to women would become wasted - I havent wasted atleast and so many of my friends.Dhanasakthihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11768546201346382616noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9825782.post-77305708683042007822009-06-16T05:10:36.401-07:002009-06-16T05:10:36.401-07:00Dhanasakthi,
To your question, the answer is yes...Dhanasakthi,
To your question, the answer is yes, the discussion happens all the time.
In fact, the crux of the conversation in this story actually happened - it was a true conversation (sans the humor) about women going to work. We were at a friends' place and we had just finished watching the funny Tamil movie (V.Sekhar's) "Virulukketha Veekkam". In that movie the story was about women needing to work and the guys not allowing it out of ego.
After the movie, a friend of ours started questioning the movie's premise. He said that if we were to "give our best to our children" women should stay at home.
So, this story is based on an actual conversation.
The point is not if women should work or not - most families make that decision internally, based on convenience. But COMMENTING about women who work happens constantly. When I was in engineering school people called seats taken up by women as a "waste" because they would marry and not "contribute".
Most men and even some women in Indian society feel free to comment on the rights of women all the time - that is what this story is all about, really. That is why it is about the words men use - such as "letting" women work, as if women are beholden to men for the right to work.
Thanks for commenting. I like the first story better too.Ramiah Ariyahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04792893365470748755noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9825782.post-69355956166106073992009-06-16T05:04:24.045-07:002009-06-16T05:04:24.045-07:00Just read both the stories.. So I have to withdraw my comment posted just for Storyline 2.

But I seriously feel, men are no more hesitant to send their women to go for work. It becomes mandatory for both to work becoz of housing loans, for one reason. Many other reasons may follow.Dhanasakthihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11768546201346382616noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9825782.post-82655542633909011472009-06-16T04:51:42.092-07:002009-06-16T04:51:42.092-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.Dhanasakthihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11768546201346382616noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9825782.post-19880970288940326822009-06-14T23:42:37.182-07:002009-06-14T23:42:37.182-07:00An interesting thing that I have experienced is th...An interesting thing that I have experienced is that I have spoken to many housewives encouraging them to go to work but they, until today, keep saying "Udhyogam purusha lakshanam"Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9825782.post-38510143581019521772009-06-12T00:04:02.304-07:002009-06-12T00:04:02.304-07:00The story was excellent.
